Shikara Cruises Debut on Bhopal’s Lakes as Chief Minister Flags Off New Tourism Attraction

Bhopal enhances its tourism appeal as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurates new shikara boat services at the city’s Boat Club. The launch, attended by key political leaders, aims to boost local tourism, enrich lakefront experiences, and strengthen the city’s cultural and recreational offerings.

Bhopal’s iconic Boat Club added a fresh chapter to the city’s tourism story on Tuesday as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated a fleet of traditional-style shikara boats, giving the “City of Lakes” a new cultural and recreational draw. The launch, marked by a ceremonial flag-off, is part of the government’s broader push to elevate Bhopal’s waterfront experience and strengthen its appeal as a leisure destination.

The Chief Minister, joined by an eminent lineup of political and legislative leaders, highlighted the move as a step toward expanding urban tourism while enhancing local livelihoods connected to water-based activities. Among the dignitaries present were Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan, Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, and BJP State President Hemant Khandelwal. Their presence underscored the government’s unified effort to promote tourism infrastructure across Madhya Pradesh.

Officials noted that the introduction of the shikara service at the Boat Club is expected to diversify the city’s recreational offerings, attracting both residents and visitors to experience Bhopal’s lakes through a culturally inspired boating experience. Authorities also emphasized that safety measures and operational regulations have been structured to ensure smooth functioning of the service.

With this launch, Bhopal’s lakefront takes a significant stride toward becoming a more vibrant public space, while the new attraction signals the administration’s ongoing commitment to transforming the capital’s tourism landscape. The initiative is set to boost local engagement, draw higher visitor footfall, and reinforce Bhopal’s standing as one of India’s most picturesque urban destinations.
